Chic Marquees to hire

Marquee Hire main image showing the marquee taken at a photo shoot

Should I Hire A Marquee Now The Summer Is Over?

Most people consider the use of a marquee to be suitable only during the summer months. However even as the nights draw in, hiring a marquee for a party, wedding or any other event is still a viable option. Larger marquees can accommodate some types of patio heaters to help keep the guests warm as the temperature drops, but make sure you ask the marquee hire firm if they can supply heaters rather than using your own. The wrong heater in the wrong marquee could have disastrous consequences so only use heaters provided by the marquee hire company. If you’re hiring a marquee for a party where guests are likely to be dancing the night away, chances are you won’t need any heaters as the guests will generate enough heat and the marquee will keep that heat where it should be, especially where the side walls are utilised.

Hiring a marquee could be a perfect solution if you’re planning on having a house party, but the number of expected guests is more than your house can accommodate. By putting a small party marquee next to the house increases the ‘indoor’ space considerably and is an ideal solution if you’d rather people don’t smoke inside your home. The same idea could also be adopted where a commercial function room is hired. If the layout of the building allows a party marquee could be erected giving some outside space for guests to enjoy whilst remaining undercover.

Wedding marquees don’t get hired as frequently in the winter months for obvious reasons. However with a few well placed heaters and keeping two or three sides in place, wedding marquees in the autumn and winter months can be just as cosy as any function room, and are often far more romantic. There’s something magical about marquees which warms the hearts of your guests in a way that bricks and mortar cannot. It doesn’t matter if some of your guests are more comfortable with their coats on, as this can also happen in many function rooms where the heating system isn’t up to scratch.

Marquee hire doesn’t become a ‘no go’ just because the outside temperature drops and no matter what time of year, it’s usually a more cost effective option than many function rooms. As most of us UK residents are fully aware, it’s probably more likely to rain in the summer than it is in the winter and as mentioned, by hiring a few heaters from the hire company makes party and wedding marquees just as warm and welcoming as they are in the summer months.

A Look at Wedding Cufflinks for Men

A Look at Wedding Cufflinks for Men

Cufflinks For Men, Tie Bars, Pins and Money Clips - Cuffs 'N' Collars

A wedding ceremony is a very formal occasion where the ladies don their finest frocks and men are all suited and booted. No one would consider attending a wedding ceremony wearing casual clothes, especially if they’re one of the bridesmaids or grooms men, so everything from tip to toe needs to be perfect. Even down to the little things such as the bridesmaids earrings must be just so, and it’s no different for the men with cravat pins and tie bar clips. A wedding is a formal celebration and formal dress is an absolute must.

The Groom II - Wedding Party Groom Cufflinks

However within all this formality, there is room for a sense of fun and frivolity and what better way to achieve this then with novelty cufflinks for the men? The male entourage of a wedding ceremony consists of the father of the bride, the father of the groom, the groom himself, the best man, the groomsmen and the ushers. In light of this, many jewellery designers have come up with a range of mens cufflinks and tie-pins designed specifically for the male entourage each bearing a variety of designs either tailored to their specific role within the ceremony or a more generic design with a wedding theme or initial cufflinks.

B.Step-Dad VIII - Step Dad of the Bride Cufflinks

Wedding cufflinks come in a wide range of designs, ranging from formal to fun. For example, some designs bear the word ‘groom’, ‘best man’, ‘usher’ or ‘father of the bride’ where as others depict a sculpted bride and groom and are suitable for all male members of the entourage. It’s not uncommon to present the members of your entourage with a commemorative gift such as an engraved hip flask for the men and jewellery for the ladies. However presenting the men with a commemorative pair of cufflinks is also an option, and choosing wedding cufflinks bearing either their role, or the initials of the bride and groom along with the date of the wedding can be especially fitting.

Same sex marriages are becoming increasingly popular and many jewellery designers have come up with a range of wedding cufflinks to suite. Some designs feature a pair of male stick figures holding hands, bride cufflinks, others feature the gay pride rainbow flag or a pair of ‘Mars’ planetary symbols depicting the joining of two males in matrimony. One very popular design for mens cufflinks feature the words ‘Mr & Mr’ alongside a pair of top hats, next ties or champagne glasses. All of the cufflinks are designed specifically for same sex marriages and or perfect for to mark the occasion. No matter who is getting married, there is a range of mans cufflinks designed especially to mark the occasion.

Light up your life with designer lighting

Interior lighting has come a long way since I was a child. Back then we had a single ‘big’ light in the lounge or sitting room along with a smaller table lamp or reading lamp. In the kitchen was a single fluorescent tube and the bathroom was also illuminated by a single bulb. As far as I recall, the concept of garden lighting was non existent as spending time in the garden after dark was reserved for bonfire night and bonfire night only. In recent times however, garden, lounge and kitchen lighting has taken on a much more creative turn since the advent of up-lighters, down-lighters and accent lighting, all of which allow the artificial light inside and outside your home to suit or enhance your mood.

Ambient, or mood lighting as it is also commonly known has become an aspirational element in many homes, both inside and out with even the bathroom getting it’s fair share of mood lights. Whirlpool and spa baths have brought luxury and relaxation back in to the bathroom and bathroom lighting designers have been having a field day. In addition to task lights, being those above a sink, mirror or shower cubicle which allows for enhanced illumination where the ceiling light may not adequately reach, low energy LED lights are perfect for adding a touch of light giving and added area of interest to features such as the bath tub, shower tray or even shelving. Getting creative with your bathroom lighting scheme adds a whole new dimension to this part of the house where relaxation and pampering is something which should be enjoyed to the fullest extent.

Eye level kitchen units have been ubiquitous in our kitchens for many years, however placing kitchen lighting beneath the units to illuminate your worktops is a relatively new addition. Not only do they mean you’ll no longer be preparing food in your own shadow, they also provide a far more relaxing atmosphere should your kitchen also be your dining room. For those who think there is no place for ambient lights in the kitchen, think again as once you’ve dimmed the light and set the mood, you’ll never look back to the days when your kitchen lighting relied solely on the ‘big’ light for illumination.

The biggest leap forward in artificial home illumination in recent years must be in the garden. The ever growing popularity of decking has led to us spending much more time in our gardens and even after the sun has dropped, many of us prefer to stay outside, especially in the summer months. Garden lighting is far more than a single flood light illuminating the rear of your property, as this is far too bright to enjoy. Ideally you want low level lights which allows you to enjoy your garden in the hours of darkness, lights which allows you to see the steps of your decking or the path through your flower beds, lights which enhances your more sculptural plants, lights which doesn’t compete with a the starry expanse overhead.

By getting creative with your interior lights, be it lounge, kitchen or bathroom lighting your home will fell much cosier, far more romantic and a place you’ll look forward to returning to. By doing the same with your garden lighting you’ll spend more time outside, making your home feel larger and more extravagant then ever before.

Dressing your windows

 Shuttered Windows II

Almost nobody these days has an undressed window in their home, but how many people have considered all the options available when it comes to dressing their windows in order to add style to their home whilst enabling them to control the amount of light that either enters or leaves their home? A lot of people, many of them men, will have only a curtain or blind which they open or close when necessary and it’s colour or pattern will bear nothing in common to the rest of the room. Often people, many of them men, will have a design in or around their windows which completely clashes with the rest of the room and chances are they haven’t even noticed.

If you’re reading this and are simultaneously thinking “that could be my home”, then you need to spend a moment deciding if your window dressings are working for or against the rest of your décor. Firstly, you need to do a colour count which includes the main colour of your walls, curtains, carpet, sofa, rug and any large furnishings or furniture. If you find you have many different colours then you should consider reducing the overall palette of your room to three or four main colours.

It makes sense to fit the curtains or blinds in with the rest of your décor, as replacing a pair of curtains is far cheaper than buying a new three piece suite just because the colour isn’t quite right. Curtains can be complemented with blinds of a contrasting colour, or one which echoes the carpet. But as with a shirt and a tie, if your curtains are patterned, then choose a plain blind or vice versa; a patterned blind needs plain curtains. One can however have plain curtain with plain a plain blind, just please avoid mixing and muddling patterns or your room will feel like a kaleidoscope.

Roman blinds add an air of sophistication to a room, especially if the windows are tall and the curtain is decorated with an ornate pelmet or valance. Alternatively, roller blinds are ideal for rooms with a contemporary feel, as are both Venetian and vertical blinds. If you have a set of cushions on your sofa bearing a design or pattern you like, you could look to these for inspiration. Matching the pattern of your roller blinds and cushions will tie your décor together and give your room a theme. You could have striped roller blinds and spotty cushions which would contrast well with each other, or match velvet Roman blinds to match a velvet sofa. By taking a step back and thinking about how your room’s décor ties together, and by following a few simple rules will make you house feel much more more homely.

You can’t go wrong with roller or Roman blind

Shuttered Windows

Having blinds fitted in your south facing windows is more important during the winter months than they are in the summer months, in my humble opinion. With the sun at such a low level throughout the day it’s glare is often more ‘in your face’ than it is throughout the summer, and hence, blocking its glare. I don’t now what it is with us Brits but we seem to have issues with drawing the curtains during the day and as such, we tend to have blinds or net curtains to block out or defuse strong sunlight. Venetian blinds, with the horizontal slates and vertical blinds are very popular, however they do let a significant amount of light through even when closed. The Venetian blinds are a pain to clean and vertical blinds do fair well in even a light breeze. So in my mind, either Roman or roller blinds are the way to go.

If you have relatively small windows, you probably best opting for roller blinds as they almost completely retract. This is handy if you want to get maximum light into the room as well as wanting to block the light out. Roman blinds, although more ornate than roller blinds do have hang of about 6-8 inches when fully open due to the way in which they retract, and therefore are more suitable for larger or taller windows. Both roller and Roman blinds can feature either thermal or blackout backing. The thermal backing helps to keep rooms warm in the winter and cool in the summer  where as the blackout backing almost completely blocks out the outside light, making them perfect for children’s bedrooms when you want a bit of darkness on those endless summer nights.

Roller and Roman blinds are available in a massive selection of fabrics. Block colours such as deep red, purple or green can give a room a contemporary feel, as can many of the modern patterns based on designs by many contemporary artists. If you’re more of a traditionalist, a wide range of classic patterns based on designs by William morris, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and other British designers from the Victorian era and arts and crafts movement. Whatever your tastes, if you want to control the amount of light entering your home and want to do so with a sense of style, then you really cant go wrong with either style of blinds highlighted in this article, and with so many choices to choose from, how could you?

Know Your Favours

There are a number of milestones in a person’s life which absolutely have to be shared with family and close friends, and what better way to remind them of the day you tied the knot, to that uber cute baby shower, to a wedding anniversary where every member of your life shared with you than to give them a favour. Favours have become popular in these occasions because they serve as souvenirs for that intimate gathering, and the tags always come with the date and an icon which communicates your identity. It also is an indication that you have thought of your guests and their comfort while they share that special day with you like match boxes, mint dragees and other useful items like letter openers and corkscrews for the men. Most favours are left on the table near the seating cards so there will be no need to distribute them after the meal is over individually. Some place card holders already serve as favours on their own. For weddings, it is the couple’s identity that ties in with the entire theme of the wedding celebration, the same goes for anniversaries. And later, when expecting, it will be a baby shower or even a children’s party.

The top wedding favours are often customised if not personalised to brand the couple. The choices of top favours have already ranged from personalised flip flops, to perfumes, to tiny bottles of champagne, apothecary jars and even playing cards. For a couple who enjoy visiting cafés and consider coffee breaks their bonding time, giving away bags of coffee with their choice of packaging can be a hit among their guests. If a couple enjoys the beach and other marine life, and have held the wedding somewhere in the seaside, why not give away seashell glass coasters, or starfish shaped bookmarks, or some shell shaped bath soaps for the guests? If the theme is winter, the appropriate wedding favours would be snowflake shaped confetti soaps, crystal accessories and so many other options. So many themes are going non-traditional lately, and one of the popular favours is lip balms, which are seasonal and are also very useful. If the couple is involved in the education sector, it’s always smart to have notebooks and pens as wedding favours, sometimes miniature chalkboards and a photograph on the side can serve well.

Anniversaries are sometimes the extensions of the weddings. Anniversary favours can easily be matched according to the year of when the wedding was held. If the original wedding theme was a spring garden, why not relive the memories and give away butterfly themed anniversary favours? For a fiftieth golden anniversary favour, it’s easy to give away favours in gold like accessories, teacups and pens gilded in gold.

Picking the right favour for the occasion need not be such a puzzle. It’s really all about being creative and knowing your identity. Which one is yours?

Wrought Iron Gates and Railings

Artistic wrought iron gate

Although wrought iron declined in popularity as steel became the common metal for manufacturing and construction, the term ‘wrought iron’ is still used to describe steel gates and railings which have been ‘wrought’ or worked by hand. The vast majority of wrought iron products today are in fact made from mild steel, and not iron as the name suggests. The fact is, mild steel is a much better material; being stronger, easier to work and weld than iron, and is much more resistant to corrosion. These properties make mild steel the ideal material for gates and railings, along with a myriad of other products including pipe work, nails, screws, etc.

Wrought iron gates and railings have been popular in the UK since the sixteenth century and were to be found on almost every urban street and surrounding almost every stately home or public park. However many of Britain’s railings were removed during WWII as part of the war effort, leaving only the stubs behind. In more recent years, many home owners have been replacing their long lost railings with designs which echo those of the period the original railings were fitted, or updating the look with contemporary gates or railings.

The beauty of wrought iron is that it natively, the choices of decorative features which can be incorporated in to both gates and railings are almost endless. Design details such as arching, swooping or twisted pickets, decorative finials & knuckles and sweeping scroll work can all be easily incorporated into any design. Wrought iron railings and gates can be designed and manufactured to match any home, be it a modest country cottage, a large stately home, a Victorian town house, a seafront villa or more modern housing.

Wrought iron is also ideal for commercial premises where security is a main concern. As the fence panels and gates can be made to almost any height or length, with finials topping each picket acting as both a security and an aesthetic feature, means that wrought iron gates and railings can protect against intruders on almost any commercial or industrial site. For the ultimate in defensive railings, heavy duty palisade fencing and security fencing can be installed along with electrically operated security gates.

With over four hundred years having passed by since wrought iron was first used for gates, railings and fencing applications, the designs have changed very little, as have the processes used in their manufacture. The only difference being wrought iron was replaced with steel around the late nineteenth century, but that’s a minor detail. The basic design and purpose of wrought iron railings and gates still hold true today, and will do for many years to come.

The Perfect Valentine Gift

Tony Perotti genuine leather red ladies laptop work briefcase with shoulder strap Red TP-8149Red

Are you looking for the perfect gift to give to your sweetheart for Valentine’s Day? Then look no further; for there is no shortage of handbags that women are dying to have as part of their image. Let us look in particular at two prominent lines— Kipling and Tony Perotti.

Kipling handbags come in many sizes and in many kinds; mini-bags, satchels, totes, shoulder and cross-body. The Eldorado small shoulder/ travel bag, with five pockets and three card slots, making it perfect for organising the things one is carrying. It comes in two colours, spotted and “rusteria”. The former looks somewhat like a leopard coat, the latter, pale brown with dark brown, angular spots. The Gidget cross-body bag is one of the most striking of Kipling’s bags. It sports multicoloured marble patterns against a white background. The strap can be detached, so the bag can be carried in different ways. It also has a dual mode monkey key hanger. The Anthos drawstring shoulder bag is covered with a pattern is based on the Milky Way, with all its beautiful bright stars and nebulae. It comes in black, yellow, and petrol. And the Tasnim cross-body shoulder bag has as its most prominent feature its thin, delicate strap and there are the leather logo accents. It comes in black and JCDC red.

Tony Perotti is an Italian based company that makes Italian leather handbags and other goods. Among those made for women, there is a large number that have been rated with four or five stars. One is the Prima wear-across handbag (closes by means of a magnet; available in orange and aqua blue). Then there is the Valentina women’s handbag, with its ribbon-like strap, available only in fuchsia. The Ferrari multi-compartment handbag, with long shoulder straps and compartments for cell phones and other important items, coloured black, brown, or honey. The Prima casual chic bag with leather buckled handle handbag, and an outside zipped pocket and closure. This one comes in fuchsia only.

When buying a handbag or any accessory as a gift for a lady, make sure that it fits her overall appearance and complexion, as well as her style and taste. An orange handbag, for instance, would make a great gift for a redhead. And does she prefer formal or casual styles? Suitcases or some nice Samsonite luggage to hint a nice weekend away. Buy any of these handbags as a Valentine’s gift and your wife or girlfriend will love you for it! They really make a lady look fashionable and stylish, and she’ll know just how much you think of her.

Shabby Chic Decorating Ideas Cheap

How To Work With Mirrors To Enhance Your House

Using mirrors to decorate the walls in your house is a wonderful and cheap idea.  Mirrors give the impression of light and depth to any space in your residence.  Mirrors can replace pictures and artwork and act as a focal point in any space.  You can find mirrors at all price points and in various shapes and styles.  You can decide from mirror frames that are streamlined and simple or more elaborate.  No matter what your style or taste, you can find a mirror that will look fantastic in your home.  Mirrors today are both functional and decorative.

You will soon see that mirrors come in a wide range of options.  There are a number of spots to find artistic mirrors, such as vintage stores, flea markets, and antique shops.  If you want a sale, you can try Target or Wal-Mart for wonderful, simple, affordable options. Another wonderful place to research is on the internet. Mirror merchants and vendors are everywhere on the web.  These merchants should provide you with various shipping selections and guarantees for safe delivery.

Mirror placement and size can bring light into your room, and make tiny rooms appear larger. Large wall mirrors can act as wall art or a centerpiece to any area in your home. Floor to ceiling wall mirrors work especially well in little bedrooms. They help to create an illusion of your area being broader than it actually is.  A unique way to use mirrors decoratively is creating a gallery. Hang a variety of shapes and sizes like round wall mirrors all together on one wall space for an interesting look. A room that is devoid of windows and natural light is also a great area to use mirrors.  Mirrors have an ability to reflect light, brightening up even the darkest areas in your residence.  Light reflection works great for spaces like a hallway, stairway or den.

Work in mirrors with other pieces in your home.  A clean, minimalistic house will do well with simple mirror styles.  A large mirror adds more drama to a modern-styled home.  An eclectic house will do well with an ornate framed mirror that can replace art.  If shabby-chic is more your style, antique mirrors and distressed mirrors act as a perfect tie-in to the rest of your décor.

Decorating with mirrors is a great way to do something interesting and not spend a lot of money.  Yard sales, thrift merchants, and swap meets are places you should never pass up.  These are some of the wonderful places to locate inexpensive mirrors, which, with a little work and paint, can look like new.  Mirrors are easier to decorate with than paintings or photograph framing.  Mirrors aren’t just for reflection, they can also be considered art.
